General Manager for Human Resources, Corporate Compliance, Care and Well-being and Health, Safety and Environment at Bosch Oceania 

As a member of the executive team, I had responsibilities for:

Human Resources – People & Culture:

Management, coordination, and leadership of the Human Resource functions for the Bosch legal entities in Australia & New Zealand.

Managed numerous significant change projects in support of transitioning the business from a predominantly automotive parts manufacturing focus to an integrated provider of high technology goods and services. This included deployment of global, divisional and regional people and culture strategies, large scale organisational re-structures, mergers, acquisitions and divestments, leadership development and succession planning, employer branding, employee engagement, inclusion and diversity strategies and managing workplace relation matters. Managed talent acquisition development and retention strategies, recognised by LinkedIn as one of the top ten best employers in Australia and New Zealand. Led numerous complex HR infrastructure improvement projects, including payroll system implementations and global integrations.

Developed high performing HR and HSE teams and leadership capabilities in all legal entities. 

Health, Safety, Environment & Wellbeing:

Ensuring the health and wellbeing (physical and psychological) of all associates and those they interact with via maintaining a state-of-the-art Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environmental (HSE) management system that ensured compliance with all Australian/NZ legislative, Victorian Self Insurance, WorkCover and Bosch corporate requirements. 

Developed and implemented accolade winning regional Health, Safety and Environmental risk management systems that were acknowledged by regulators as 'best in class', won business partner (Toyota) environmental awards, and achieved the Bosch international global safety award (2022) for the development of a mentally healthy workplace strategy for Robert Bosch (Australia).

Implemented a strategic approach to employee care and wellbeing which over a five-year period resulted in a reduction in the number of workplace injury claims by 50%, reduced actual claim costs by 63% and was an acknowledged contributory factor in achieving year on year improvements in employee engagement scores. This was against a backdrop of significant organisational change, whilst still achieving sustainable business growth in terms of market share, revenue, profitability, and headcount increase. Secured six-year self-insurance license renewal in Victoria.

Corporate Compliance:

Management of all corporate compliance matters for Bosch Oceania, including deployment of global compliance strategy and initiatives, global business risk assessment support, compliance communications and awareness, development and delivery of compliance training sessions and implementation of local compliance risk management activities, facilitation and oversight of all investigations.

Key role in Oceania Crisis Management Team throughout the COVID pandemic, minimising negative impacts to employees while achieving positive outcomes for the overall business.

Additional portfolios included Data Protection, Privacy, Continuous Improvement Processes and Site Manager for Clayton location (HQ).

June 2007 – July 2012 

Health, Safety & Environment Manager Oceania 

The purpose of this role was to coordinate and align all Bosch legal entities in Australia & New Zealand with corporate HSE policy and procedures, ensure due diligence in respect to all local legislative and corporate requirements, act as lead corporate auditor and facilitate all HSE aspects of mergers, acquisition, divestment activities and environmental matters. 

Key achievements:

  • Managed the integration of the OHS, Environmental and Fire and Emergency functions into a single organisation.
  • Architect of an integrated HSE management system (complete re-build) tailored to the organisation's risk profile, that met the combined requirements of AS/NZS 4801, OHSAS 18001 (basis for the Bosch global management system), ISO45001, Self-Insurance ‘National Audit Tool’ (NAT) and ISO14001.
  • Reduced overall HSE related business risk via development and implementation of an in-house quantifiable risk assessment and profiling tool.
  • Developed and delivered in house training/coaching for all senior executives/company officers in Due Diligence and managing critical incidents.
  • Developed, implemented, and chaired the Bosch Oceania Crisis Management Team.
  • Achieved year on year safety and environmental performance improvements (measuring both lead and lag indicators).

Senior Occupational Health & Safety Consultant 

Engaged as a senior safety consultant to support businesses enrolled into the government funded ‘OH&S advice for small businesses’ program.

Carried out safety audits across a wide range of businesses enrolled in the program, identifying areas where OHS improvements were required to ensure legal compliance. Provided pragmatic solutions/guidance on how small businesses could best meet their legal obligations. Coached business owners through the risk assessment process, including drafting safety improvement plans for their businesses.

 

British Nuclear Group

Plant Safety Manager |Safety Advisor | Plant Manager| HSR |Fitter & Turner 

British Nuclear Group (BNG) is a specialist site management and nuclear clean-up business focused upon delivering accelerated clean-up programmes and safe management of high-risk facilities. BNG are recognised world leaders in providing innovative solutions for high hazard plant management.

Responsible for health & safety aspects of operations, maintenance and decommissioning on the UK's largest nuclear plant. Area Safety Manager on a $90 million construction project to decommission legacy nuclear waste silos. 

Managed a team of safety practitioners providing industrial and radiological safety support for design, construction, commissioning, plant operations, decommissioning and demolition activities in high-risk environments.

Qualified ‘Duly Authorised Person’ under the UK Radiological Protection Act, which is a required qualification to authorise and manage safety related work on a licensed nuclear facility.
