Wellfish Workshops

Being Wellfish is any act of self-care that you undertake with the intention of improving your own wellbeing, without feeling selfish or guilty for doing so. That’s being Wellfish.

The concept came about after too many conversations where people told me stories of neglecting their own physical and mental self-care, because life was just getting in the way, and they felt guilty or selfish for spending time on themselves.

The Wellfish workshops are designed to remind us all of the importance of looking after ourselves and making sure that we should remember to ‘put our own oxygen mask on first‘ and that by prioritising some regular self-care, we can better maintain our own wellbeing and also feel better equipped to support those around us.

The Wellfish framework we use helps people identify or reconnect with the things that help make them feel better, identify some of the ‘blockers and bad habits’ that we all encounter in everyday life, and put in place some simple measures to help us all better maintain our own wellbeing.

Wellfish for all

Managing your own mental health & wellbeing.

This session is designed to educate people about the impacts of poor mental health in the workplace and in society, in a non-threatening & entertaining way. We talk about the importance of looking after ourselves; we identify some of the common barriers (ourselves included) that all too often prevent us from engaging in self-care and we introduce a simple framework to help us prioritise our own wellbeing, without feeling guilty or selfish for doing so.

(Two-hour awareness session)

  • Wellfish for ‘Shoal Leaders’ – self-care for supervisors and managers.

(Half-day training session)

“Mike’s delivery style is entertaining and informative, blending the educational elements with engaging activities and discussions. This approach makes complex topics, such as mental health and stress management, accessible without feeling overwhelming or intimidating. I’d highly recommend this course to anyone, whether you’re an individual looking to improve your own wellbeing, or a leader aiming to create a healthier workplace.”

1

In a perfect world (or workplace) we would prefer to remove the significant stressors at source, rather than just supporting those whose health & wellbeing has been negatively impacted by these stressors.

2

Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world.

3

So, it is important that when we are faced with life (or work’s) immovable stressors, we take action to help ourselves to be better able to look after our own health & wellbeing.

4

Often, there is a common tendency that sees people neglect their own wellbeing in such situations due to their commitment to a ‘higher calling’. Whether that be work pressure, or the pressures of life beyond work…or often both!

5

One of the common reasons why people neglect to invest in their own wellbeing, is that they believe they are being selfish if they spend time on self-focused activities (such as exercise, hobbies, pastimes etc)

6

The ‘Wellfish’ principle is built on the premise of ‘putting your own oxygen mask on first, before helping others’. That is to say, ensuring that you maintain your own wellbeing, so that you can better support those around you.

7

The ‘Wellfish’ workshops are aimed at helping people understand the importance of self-care and to incrementally prioritise & take ownership of their own wellbeing, without feelings of selfishness and the associated guilt that sometimes goes with it.

“We recently had the privilege of Mike attending our annual conference as a guest speaker. His ability to infuse serious topics with light-heartedness, without detracting from the gravity of the subject, is impressive. His engagement with the audience transformed the session into an interactive experience, encouraging a collective reflection on personal and communal mental health practices. The WELLFISH session was the most talked about conference topic.”
